Fees & Coverage
Standard rate
My rate is $150 for a 50-minute therapy session payable by e-transfer or credit card. As a RSW, my services are exempt from HST.
The average cost for therapy in Ontario ranges between $125 and $200 per session, with clinical psychologists often charging $200+. Please see the Affordable Therapy Network and other resources for free and low-cost counselling options.
Sliding scale
Having struggled financially myself, it’s important for me to make my services as accessible as possible. I have a limited number of sliding scale spots in my practice (currently full).
Sliding scale spots ($100-$125) are for folks without extended health benefits who are economically marginalized (unemployed, little disposable income, students with limited or no coverage, frequently experience stress about meeting basic needs, etc.) .
Before requesting a reduced rate, please consider your home ownership status, freedom to travel/take vacations without incurring financial burdens, access to savings/investments/wealth, and ability to reliably meet your basic needs. Referring to this flowchart by Haddasah Damien to see can help. If you find yourself in the low to low/middle range, a sliding scale rate might be suitable (subject to availability).
Rates will be discussed during our consultation and confirmed if you choose to book a first session.
Coverage options
Many insurance companies include RSW/MSW counselling services. If you have an extended healthcare benefits plan, check the titles to determine your coverage. I am able to bill directly to GreenShield, but every other insurance provider will require you to pay and submit a claim for reimbursement. My services will not be reimbursable to plans located outside of Canada.
I am not able to provide diagnoses or medication management.
No coverage? Depending on how much you spend on extended health services, you may be able to claim your sessions. Check out the CRA website for more details.
Student Coverage
GTA school insurance plans are listed below (not all schools are included, and may not be fully up to date). Always check your school’s current health & dental plan to see if your coverage includes RSW/MSW services.
York University
Undergraduate: $50 per visit up to $800 per academic year for Psychologist and RSW/MSW.
Graduate: Depends on plan opted into, see details.
George Brown College
70% - 90% of session fee for up to $1,000 per academic year for Psychologist and RSW/MSW. (Plans)
University of Toronto
Undergraduate: Up to $100 per session for up to 15 sessions ($1500 maximum for the academic year); Psychologist, MSW/RSW, Psychotherapist, Clinical Counsellor.
Graduate: Up to $500 per year for Psychologist. Some PHD student packages include $500 for MSW/RSW and a top-up plan for up to another $1500.
U of T Scarborough Undergraduate: $800 per year for Psychologist; including $300 for Beacon program.
